Palari is a historic and highly respected winery located in Santo Stefano Briga, on the hills overlooking the Strait of Messina, an area with an ancient and prestigious winemaking tradition. Owned by Salvatore Geraci, Palari is internationally renowned for the production of Faro DOC, one of Sicily’s most noble and long-lived appellations.
Viticulture in the Messina area dates back to at least the 14th century BC, as proven by archaeological discoveries that testify to a flourishing wine culture already in ancient times. For centuries, the wines of Faro were considered among the finest of the Mediterranean, sustaining the local economy and shaping the identity of the territory.
The vineyards are located in the Palari district of Santo Stefano Briga and are planted exclusively with native grape varieties, some of the oldest in Sicily: Nerello Mascalese, Nerello Cappuccio, Nocera, Cappuccio, Cor’e Palumba, Acitana, Galatena and others, all permitted under the Faro DOC regulations. These historic varieties are deeply rooted in the land and perfectly adapted to its unique conditions.
The territory benefits from an extraordinary microclimate, characterized by steep hillsides and a dramatic elevation range that rises to approximately 450 meters above sea level within just a few kilometers from the sea. This combination of altitude, constant sea breezes, and strong day–night temperature variations ensures slow, balanced ripening and remarkable aromatic complexity.
Due to the medium-to-steep slopes, all vineyard work is carried out by hand, with grapes harvested into small baskets to preserve their integrity. In the cellar, vinification follows a philosophy of precision and respect for the fruit: gentle pressing, temperature-controlled fermentations, aging in French oak barrels, and refinement in climate-controlled cellars. Every step is carefully supervised to preserve the elegance, structure, and longevity that define Palari’s wines.
Through the union of ancient heritage and modern enological expertise, Palari has restored Faro DOC to its rightful place among Italy’s great wines, producing bottles of extraordinary depth, finesse, and unmistakable sense of place.
