La Togata is a small family-owned winery located in the province of Siena, in southern Tuscany, with vineyards situated in some of the most respected areas south of Montalcino, including Pietrafocaia, Sant’Angelo in Colle, and Torrenieri. The estate also houses its wine cellar in the area of Sant’Angelo in Colle, a zone renowned for producing wines of structure, elegance, and longevity.
The property is centered around a striking nineteenth-century villa spread over five floors, reflecting both the historical roots and the intimate scale of the winery. La Togata is owned by the Angel family and is proudly led by women: Stephania, Vanessa, and Azzurra. The estate is managed by Jeanneth Angel, whose extensive experience in international wine marketing guides the winery with a clear and passionate vision.
Every phase of production is followed personally and with meticulous care. Vineyard management relies on natural products, manual pruning, and careful yield control, while harvests are carried out by hand. Fermentations are temperature-controlled to preserve freshness and precision, and aging takes place in medium-sized Slavonian oak casks, selected to enhance balance and elegance without overpowering the character of the fruit.
The vineyards, all over twenty years old, are planted at varying elevations and benefit from sunlight until sunset. The vines are exceptionally healthy and undergo double cluster thinning to improve exposure and concentration. During harvest, strict selection continues both in the vineyard and in the cellar, where traditional winemaking methods are employed to ensure purity and consistency.
The cellar, carved directly into stone, has housed La Togata’s wines since the first vintage in 1990. Built using advanced technology and thermally insulated, it maintains a constant temperature that never exceeds 18°C. The estate uses Slavonian oak barrels crafted by Garbellotto of Conegliano Veneto, alongside select French oak barrels from Tonellerie Barthomieu. The result is a collection of wines that express body, elegance, and aromatic clarity, shaped by dedication, patience, and a deep respect for the land.
