Generazione Alessandro

Generazione Alessandro,

Benedetto, Anna, and Benedetto are the fourth generation of a family of winemakers, three cousins raised among the vineyards of their fathers’ company, Alessandro Camporeale, located in province of Palermo Sicily. They developed a passion for viticulture from a young age when they participated in the harvests. In time, they started working full-time with their fathers in the winery itself. Strengthened by years of honing a wide range of skills in their roles at Alessandro di Camporeale, the cousins decided to embark on a project in Etna DOC. Etna DOC was the first denomination of Controlled Origin in Sicily, established in 1968. It is a territory with some of the most diverse viniculture characteristics in the world, giving life to wines with unique, strong identities. The project was named Generazione Alessando.

The property extends for about ten hectares on the north-east side of Mount Etna. The vineyards are located on plots of land in close proximity to each other. However, all have differing geomorphological and microclimatic characteristics, which profoundly influence the yield of the grapes. An antique winery houses the wine cellar.

Microclimates

The variety of microclimates present on the volcano is one of the most fascinating peculiarities of this territory. If in general it is possible to identify typical features of mountain climates, it is true that the latitude ensures a greater sun intensity and duration, which leads to a purely Mediterranean matrix. Profoundly diversifying factors are altitude and exposure: vineyards on the north side benefit from the protection of the Nebrodi Mountains and enjoys a drier climate given its greater insolation; the east and south-east sides, on the other hand, overlook the sea and are therefore characterized by additional cloudiness, rainfall and less sunshine.

Soils

Profound differences can also be found in the soil, as measured by composition and texture. The volcanic sands are more-or-less fine, the presence of calcium is variable and iron content and alkalinity vary between one lava flow and another. The volcano’s continuous activity and consequent fallout of ashes and lapilli ensure ongoing natural fertilization in the medium and long term.
