Cantina dell Volta, Lambrusco di Sorbara D.O.C., is a product of the Bellei Family’s hundred years’ experience, wine entrepreneurs from the commune of Bomporto of Modena since 1920, with the oenologist, Christian, representing the arrival of the fourth generation.
The company is based in the original building of the Cantina Bellei, built by Christian’s great-grandfather on the banks of the Naviglio di Bomporto canal, near the 18th-century dock where boats would do “la volta” (the turnaround) before setting sail back to the city of Modena. It is due to this place, steeped in meaning and history, that we owe the symbol of the riverboat and the company name “Cantina della Volta”.
Although the winery is in the heart of Lambrusco di Sorbara territory, Christian and his father Giuseppe have always cultivated a passion for sparkling wines of the finest quality. After making numerous visits to Epernay, the capital of Champagne, to study the winemaking using the Metodo Classico, they applied it to the grapes in their own winery in Bomporto. This great passion for Metodo Classico led Christian Bellei to establish the Cantina della Volta in 2010.
In the 1990s, vine shoots of Chardonnay and Pinot Nero varieties purchased in France were planted. After a few years, with the initial harvests, it was possible to start the initially experimental production of quality sparkling wines. It was by honing his technique and through his careful treatment of these grapes that Giuseppe Bellei went on to obtain major awards in numerous winemaking contests.
