Bindella – Tenuta Vallocaia

Since Etruscan times, Montepulciano has played a central role in Tuscany’s wine history and trade. Celebrated by historical figures such as Tito Livio and Poliziano, and later by Voltaire, Alexandre Dumas, and Thomas Jefferson, Vino Nobile di Montepulciano has earned its place among Italy’s great wines. This legacy was formally recognized with DOC status in 1960 and elevated to DOCG in 1980. The modern story of Bindella began in the 1980s with Rudi Bindella, grandson of Jean Bindella. In the early 1900s, Jean transported wine with just two horses and introduced the iconic Tuscan flask to Switzerland, laying the foundations of a family deeply connected to Italian wine culture. Rudi expanded the family business by importing Italian products and opening renowned restaurants throughout Switzerland. During his studies, he discovered Montepulciano and became fascinated by its unique terroir and historic vocation for fine wine. This encounter led him to become a winemaker and to establish his own estate in the heart of the appellation. Bindella’s vineyards are located on gently rolling hills surrounding Montepulciano, characterized by excellent exposures and soils rich in clay and limestone. These conditions allow Sangiovese to express both elegance and structure, producing wines that combine depth, balance, and longevity. Today, Bindella stands as one of the reference producers of Vino Nobile di Montepulciano, crafting wines that honor tradition while embracing precision and clarity. Each bottle reflects a deep respect for history, terroir, and the timeless identity of Montepulciano.
