Armosa

ARMOSA is a boutique winery located in Scicli, in the province of Ragusa, on the southeastern coast of Sicily. Founded in 2002 by Michele Molgg, the estate was created with the precise aim of expressing the identity of Nero d’Avola through a strong connection between grape, terroir, and minimal intervention winemaking. The first vineyard was planted in 2003 in an area carefully selected for its sandy tuff soils and its immediate proximity to the sea. This unique coastal environment, combined with the Mediterranean climate, allows the grapes to ripen slowly, preserving freshness, aromatic precision, and balance. ARMOSA’s philosophy is centered on enhancing the reputation of Nero d’Avola as Sicily’s great indigenous variety by cultivating it in different micro-terroirs, allowing each wine to clearly reflect its place of origin. Vineyard work is carried out with great care to achieve a natural vegetative–productive balance, favoring healthy grapes and expressive fruit. Harvesting is done manually during the cooler hours of the day, with careful grape selection directly in the vineyard. The winery itself is housed in restored rural buildings from the early 20th century and is equipped with modern stainless-steel tanks for temperature-controlled fermentations, alongside barrels dedicated to aging selected wines. Winemaking follows a non-invasive approach, guided by the principle that “time works on wine, not man.” In addition to its Nero d’Avola wines, ARMOSA also produces a dry white wine from Moscato Bianco and a grappa distilled from Nero d’Avola pomace. The estate is deeply rooted in the territory of Scicli, a UNESCO World Heritage site, where beaches, valleys, olive groves, and carob trees define a landscape of remarkable beauty and historical depth.
