Since Etruscan times, Montepulciano has been central to Tuscany’s wine trade. From Tito Livio and Poliziano to Voltaire, Alexandre Dumas, and Thomas Jefferson, the Vino Nobile di Montepulciano has earned its unique place in history, solidified by its DOC designation in 1960 and DOCG status in 1980. The estate’s modern story began in the 1980s with Rudi Bindella, grandson of Jean Bindella, who in the early 1900s transported wine with just two horses and introduced the Tuscan flask to Switzerland. Rudi expanded the family business by importing Italian products, opening Swiss restaurants, and, after discovering Montepulciano during his studies, became a winemaker and established his own estate.
