Ronco Del Gelso
Giorgio Badin is the owner of Ronco del Gelso, and his family has been
farming vineyards for generations. The estate spans over 37 acres and is
located in Cormons in one of the most spectacular panoramas in Friuli, Venezia.
Maintaining organic practices in his closely planted vineyards is very important
to Mr. Badin. The grapes grown here are Tocai Friulano, Chardonnay, Sauvignon,
Pinot Bianco, Pinot Grigio, Riesling Renano, Merlot, and Cabernet Franc.
Yields per vine are kept low, but the overall target is about 50 hectoliters
per hectare. The vines are trained on vertical trellis with bilateral Guyot
systems, and enjoy the best sun exposure. The dry, rich marley soil along
with the mild maritime climate and the cooler and damper mountainous air
that surrounds these vineyards are the attributes to the unusual elegance
of these fine wines. The short pruning, controlling the buds, and cultural
techniques that give low yields, focus on quality instead of quantity. |
