Luigi Maffini
For the first time ever in 1996, Luigi Maffini produced a wine from an
old family vineyard, naming it Kratos. After receiving encouraging results,
they initiated a modernization of the existing family business (founded
by his father in the 70's). At present, the estate spans 5 hectares of which
4 are now a cultivated vineyard. In addition, there are another 3 hectares,
which are leased out. They are looking to purchase more land in the near
future to increase their productions of grapes. They plan to plant new vines
even in the inner hilly regions of Cilento. In 1997, part of the vineyard
had been replanted. Today the vines, which are predominately used, are the
Fiano for the white wines, and the Piedirosso and Aglianico for the reds.
The plants enjoy a southwestern exposure on the hillsides of this beautiful
region. These fine wines are produced with the Guyot system of cultivation.
Production is approximately 40,000 bottles and it is foreseeable, with the
next vintage and the acquisition of other vineyards, an increase to approximately
100,000 - 150,000 bottles within the next 4-5 years.
