De Batte
The De Battè Estate is situated in a privileged location along the
walls of the Maritime Alps and Appennines, basking in the Mediterranean
warmth. The Eastern-southeastern exposure is enjoyed by the vines planted
on the terraces carved out of the cliffs of Riomaggiore in Cinqueterre,
with an ideal maritime climate. These very old vines were planted in the
years 20-30 (post-fillosera) and have grown best in this sandy calcareous
soil. In a region where most wine is still made at artisan or family levels,
growers like De Battè have developed their own style in working their
vineyards. The loyalty to the vines and time-tested methods of training
them makes their wines as distinctive in personality as they are variable
in quality and style. For decades, a technique of pruning, in order to favor
regeneration of the plants and in order to increase the quality of the grapes,
has been used. Sciacchetrà has an annual production of approximately
570 bottles. |
